Introduction
Delving deeper into my work as an EFL teacher, I came to learn many interesting things about the process of teaching English language like classroom management, error correction, lesson planning and so on. But there is one technique that we always ignore without thinking of its value which is relationship.
The processes of teaching and learning are based on many factors and the strong relationship between the teacher and students is not excepted. No effective learning can occur in the classroom without effective rapport. To learn, the students need not only a knowledgeable and creative teacher, but also a father, a friend and a facilitator. Have you ever thought of being that kind of teachers? How to win and engage your students effectively? Personally, I think humor, champion and facilitation are the best ways every teacher should have have the students.
1. Sense of humor
Adding a sense of humor to your class whenever it is possible can make the students interested in your lesson till the end. Laughing or even a smile can make a relaxed and unstressed classroom, which in turn encourage the students to participate in the lesson and speak English comfortably. Most important, humor is a great technique to check the students' comprehension as if they did not laugh, be sure that they did not understand.
2. Competition
Kids like champions. They like to do things that would allow them to compete and win. Therefore, engaging the students in different games and fun activities can create inspiring learning environment. Games and fun activities can also encourage shy students to use the language and speak with their classmates with great enthusiasm and initiative.
3. Facilitation
The students do NOT like any angry and upset teacher who keeps teaching and explaining without thinking of the students' understanding. They do not like a teacher who tries to show off his/her language abilities to them. Instead, they like a simple and friendly teacher who has many ways to deliver a single point to them based on their level.
Briefly, Teaching is NOT all about providing the students with new knowledge and information, but also getting their respect and touching their lives forever. This is the way we should follow to achieve our goals. Therefore, keep it simple, enjoy and have fun.
