Being a Yemeni citizen means I live in the heart of a political hot zone in the Middle East, at the center of international disputes which gain worldwide attention. Since the beginning of the twentieth century, the region has acted as a battlefield for other nations, making stability in the area an impossible feat. Growing up in such critical environment, I became accustomed to hearing political discussions at every social gathering. I came to realize that as an Arab, and a Yemeni especially, politics was an inescapable part of my life.

However, the latest critical crisis in Yemen has highly encouraged and guided me work on promoting peace dialogues and raise the people awareness of coexistence and peace despite diversity. So, I started following the news daily and spending most of my spare time reading and writing in the field of peace and conflict. Since I finished high school, I have written about many articles in Arabic language and published some of them in the local newspapers. Recently, I have studied an online course in journalism with YALA Youth organization. In addition to understanding the ethics of being a journalist, I have gained a wide range of skills in journalism such as storytelling, editing and making videos, taking photos and writing a column.

Studying English Literature has been beneficial because it has taught me how to express my ideas, which is particularly important when debating on political issues. English has been a fascinating topic because it enables the reader to question the motives of a character, and in poetry the reader questions the real theme the poet is trying to depict, through their often obscure style of writing.

Eager to know more about the event that shook the very foundations of my country, I became an avid participant in political discussions and peace building initiatives with many national and international organizations. Since 2011, I have been working as a political and social activist trying to facilitate dialogues between the political parties to prevent relapses and lay the foundations for sustainable peace in my country.

In March 2017, I participated in a peace-building program with Alf Ba Civilization and Coexistence Foundation which aims to help prevent and resolve conflict and to build sustainable peace in Yemen. During the fieldwork, we visited many schools in purpose of raising the students' awareness of various issues like Coexistence, diversity, solving problems and critical thinking.

Hence, through my past experience, I have enriched my background in peace-building and journalism. Therefore, I would like to apply for the master course in journalism in the university of Shandong in China. As I stated above, through my reading and training courses in journalism and politics, I came to improve my knowledge about my country’s matters, but not regarding other countries’ current issues. This has caught my attention and created a thirst of knowledge in me to study my chosen course. I believe that this program will give me the opportunity to gain deeper  understanding of the roots that make my society. I hope that I will be able to gain more experience in dealing with the current problems that affect world’s stability and coexistence, the inviolability of human dignity, freedom of expression, the right to free elections and minority rights.

During my studies, I will endeavor to reciprocate the favor and contribute to the diverse and stimulating Community in your reputable university. I will be able to engage in the diverse community of international students. I will share with them the political crises in country and understand from them the heritage and political parts of their countries. By doing this, I will be able to make valuable contributions to promote a sustainable peace in my country.

Nevertheless, since the middle of the twentieth century, Yemen has been suffering from a different kinds of political conflicts. Currently, my country is suffering from the most dangerous conflict that is being done by many stakeholders with confusing motivations and reasons. Many trails to stop this conflict have failed because of the misunderstanding of the conflict and its holders. Under such circumstances, I am convinced that this serious conflict can be worked out only via a more systematic study program. This is why I seek to pursue my master degree in international relations, to promote a sustainable peace in Yemen by applying other's ideas in my community.

In the future, I plan to become a part of a multicultural group with the intention of making a difference, by promoting peace, health, diversity and equality throughout the world. I also aspire to represent Yemen in an international organization and take part in shaping its foreign policy. On the risk of sounding presumptuous, I hope to be able to make a difference in my country by building a communication bridge between my country and the globe.
