How to Describe Your Past Achievements in Chevening Application

Describe your past achievements

Describing your past experience and achievements is one of the most important point when writing your Chevening application essays. But how can you describe your past experience??

In fact, there is a technique that you should follow to make a successful experience essays and we are going to talk about this technique in details.
When it comes to the Chevening application essays or interview, I think the most embarrassing and difficult part is describing the experience or future plans. Most of the attendees do not know how to talk about their experiences and plans because they do not follow a clear and organized structure. Some attendees talk too much while others give so little details which ends up with less impressive example. however, there are two essential techniques that I think have helped all successful candidates a lot. These are the STAR and SMART techniques. The STAR technique can be used to describe your achievements while the SMART technique can be used to talk about your plans and goals. In Chevening interview, you can use theSTAR technique to give examples of your leadership and networking experiences. On the other hand, use the SMART technique to say how you are going to use your past and Chevening experiences to influence other people in your community.

Today, I am going to talk more about the STAR technique and I will talk about the SMART one in other post. Go to how to write chevening scholarship essays if you want an overview of the whole application.

• The STAR technique

As I mentioned above, this technique can only be used to describe the past activities and experiences. It stands for situation, task, action and result.

1. Situation

First thing that you should do when giving, an example of your experience is describing the situation in which you engaged. You should mention here the activity, your role, date and place of the situation.

2. The task

After introducing the situation, you need to describe the target goals that you had to achieve and the difficulties that faced you.

3. Action

So have talked about the situation and tasks. Now, it is time to describe the actions you made to come through the difficulties and achieve the signed goals. Most importantly, you should describe how your leadership and network skills had helped you to get the tasks done successfully.

4. Result

This is the final stage in your example. You should describe the changes that happened and to what extent they were positive. In addition, you need to mention the lesson this experience had already taught you.
Overall, with confidence, this technique can play an important role in giving well-organized examples of your experience. In my next post, I will talk about the SMART technique and how to use it to talk about your plans. Do tell whether you found this information useful. I wish you all the success in your plans.
